Vested Interest
The statistics on health in this country have been in decline for many years. As a nation we are living longer, but we are not living healthier. But now our health is in such decline that some believe that the statistics on us living longer have peaked and are starting to turn the other way.
You may think that as you look after yourself that this does not affect you - but you would be wrong. There are huge implications for each and every one of us. We are each affected in two ways:
- We have one of the only free at point of delivery health services in the world, but that service is busting at the seams due to the pressure of work it is being asked to undertake (amongst other things) - much from obesity linked conditions. As a result the NHS is unable to deliver the service they would like to deliver and morale is low. Due to the escalating cost of the NHS, it must be re-structured and we are about to lose it as a free at point of delivery service.
- 2. The escalating cost of running the NHS is only part of the picture. There is also huge financial and emotional cost associated with the lack of productivity and upkeep of those unfortunates suffering from society based illness. It is impossible to calculate the full cost, but it is colossal.
The key thing about the nightmare we appear to be sleepwalking towards, is that it is avoidable – as long as we can overcome the vested interests in chaos.
If Better Life is successful with achieving its vision, then we stand a chance of:
- Saving the NHS as a free at point of delivery service.
- Giving the NHS the chance to provide a service it is proud of.
- Reducing the cost of Healthcare and hence taxation.
- Changing huge numbers of people’s lives for the better.
- Improving the productivity of the nation as a whole.
So do you have a vested interest in our success? If so what can you do to help?
